This blog is based on the youtube post - Why Do People From Big Cities Choose Bali? "Street Interview"
On a sunny afternoon near the beach area of the skatepark at Beachwalk Shopping Center, we met a friendly Australian man enjoying a quiet walk with his wife from Thailand. What started as a simple street interview turned into a reflection on why Bali continues to capture the hearts of people from around the world.
He introduced himself as someone from Perth, Australia. Today he lives in Thailand with his wife, working in a travel-related field. Considering Thailand is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world, we were curious about something: why spend a holiday in Bali instead?
His answer was surprisingly simple.
“Bali just feels more relaxed. It’s easier to slow down here.”
For someone who lives in Thailand — a country full of beaches, islands, and world-class tourism — his perspective was interesting. According to him, Thailand has become increasingly busy and urban in many areas. Infrastructure has grown rapidly, and in some places the experience can feel a bit overwhelming for someone looking for a peaceful break.
Bali, on the other hand, offers something different.
He explained that life in Bali still feels closely connected to nature and local culture. The spiritual atmosphere, the slower rhythm of daily life, and the simple pleasure of sitting near the beach make the island feel refreshing.
“In Bali you can still feel the local culture and the nature around you.”
For him, Bali isn’t about rushing to see famous landmarks or filling every day with activities. His perfect Bali trip is actually much simpler than that.
He plans to meet friends from Australia who also pass through the island — some of them working in industries like mining. For many Australians, Bali has become a natural meeting point where friends reconnect, share stories, and enjoy time together.
“Honestly, if I can just meet my friends here and have a few beers together, that’s already a perfect holiday.”
That idea may sound simple, but it says a lot about Bali’s unique role in the region. The island is not only a tourist destination; it is also a place where people feel comfortable gathering, relaxing, and being themselves.
For locals in Bali, hearing perspectives like this can be eye-opening. Things that might feel ordinary to someone who lives here — the beach atmosphere, the spiritual culture, the relaxed way of life — can feel incredibly special to visitors.
Many travelers come from busy cities, stressful jobs, and fast-paced environments. Bali offers something they cannot easily find elsewhere: a chance to slow down.
“Bali is just a good place to take a break.”
His story is a small reminder of something important: Bali welcomes people from many different backgrounds. Some come for nature, some for culture, some for adventure, and some simply to spend time with friends.
And sometimes, that’s all it takes to create a meaningful experience.
For people in Bali reading this, it might be worth remembering that the island many call home is also a place that gives comfort, rest, and connection to people from across the world.
Bali truly is a place for everyone.
